Recommended Standards for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Application and Interview Processes

The Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology ( CREOG ) and the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics ( APGO ) recommend these specialty-wide standards for the 2022–2023 obstetrics and gynecology residency application bicycle. These recommendations are based on data collected over the by several interview cycles, discussions at the CREOG retreats, CREOG and APGO meetings, survey feedback from applicants and program directors, and the Right Resident, Right Program, Ready Day One ( RRR ) project workgroups .
For academic year 2022–2023, we request that obstetrics and gynecology program directors adopt the stick to recommended guidelines :

  • Set the application submission deadline to October 1, 2022 (Applications and MSPEs are available for review by programs on September 29, 2022, in ERAS)
  • Release all interview offers on October 25, 2022 (with rolling offers to follow depending on the response each program receives)
  • Limit program interview invitations to the number of interview slots available
  • Allow a minimum of 48 hours after an interview invitation email has been sent for the applicant to accept or decline
  • Begin interviews no earlier than October 31, 2022
  • Release final status to applicants (interview, reject, waitlist) no later than December 2, 2022
  • Commit to virtual interviews for all applicants, including local students

The CREOG residential district and residency program leadership will be addressing the want for clearness and cohesive guidance regarding optional in-person visits by applicants and post-interview communications at the 2022 summer CREOG Retreat.

These recommendations will be communicated by APGO and CREOG to department chairs and clerkship directors indeed that they can properly advise students. The Association of American Medical Colleges and the Electronic Residency Application Service will support us in this attempt by informing student affairs deans about these recommendations and posting the associate to the Right Resident, Right Program, Ready Day One award project in the Electronic Residency Application Service system sol that applicants are informed.
